BI News, Ranchi: The 26th meeting of the Jharkhand Tribal Advisory Council (TAC) concluded at the state ministry with Chief Minister Hemant Soren presiding over the session. The TAC, during this meeting, made significant decisions, including the extension of the tenure of the sub-committee formed under the chairmanship of Pro. Stephen Marandi, a member of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, for the next year.
One of the crucial decisions made in the meeting was related to the recognition of districts and police stations established within the state under the CNNT Act of January 26, 1950. The TAC, acknowledging these areas as districts and police stations under Section 46, approved land purchase and sale under this provision.
The TAC also unanimously decided against the recent establishment of the Lugu Pahar Hydel Pumped Storage Project proposed by Damodar Valley Corporation in the Santali-inhabited hills of Bokaro district. Chief Minister Hemant Soren emphasized the government’s commitment to protect the religious heritage of the Adivasi community and ensured that decisions align with the sentiments of the people.
In preparation for the completion of the current state government’s four-year term, a statewide campaign titled “Your Plan, Your Government, Your Way” will be launched from November 15 to December 29, 2023. The meeting directed representatives and responsible ministers to play a vital role in executing their duties during the program. The campaign will cover various schemes like Birsa Awas Yojana, Birsa Irrigation Well Scheme, caste, income, birth, death, and disability certificates, along with ensuring 100% benefit distribution.

Additionally, the TAC addressed the rapid distribution of individual and community plots among those residing in forests under the “Abua Bir Abua Dishom Campaign” within the framework of forest rights. Discussions were held on the implementation of the PESA Act in Jharkhand, and written suggestions were sought from TAC members to improve the PESA law in the state.
The meeting extensively deliberated on several developmental issues, including the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act of 1908, underscoring the significance of thoughtful consideration for progress in Jharkhand. The event was attended by dignitaries from scheduled tribes, scheduled castes, minorities, and backward classes, including Minister of Tribal Affairs and TAC Vice-Chairman Champai Soren, and TAC member Pro. Stephen Marandi. The Chief Secretary, Sukhdev Singh, and other key officials were also present at the occasion.
