Sugarcane price payment should be ensured:- Yogi

BI News, Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has started the work of helping the farmers. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given orders to ensure the outstanding amount of sugarcane farmers in sugar mills.
Chief Minister Yogi said that sugarcane price payment should be ensured by issuing recovery certificates against the defaulting sugar mills which have not yet paid the sugarcane price for the crushing season 2022-23. After this strictness, Bajaj Group has sent a lump sum amount of Rs 1,371 crore to the accounts of farmers associated with its sugar mills in the last 24 hours. Sugarcane farmers have expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister. After the strict stance of the Chief Minister, the Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Development Department has released the sugar stock, molasses, etc. available in the sugar mills of other defaulting groups like Rana, Yadu, Oswal, Kesar, Simbhaoli, Modi and Shamli. Strict instructions have been given to ensure payment of sugarcane price from the money received by speedy sale of bagasse, bagasse and other by-products.

In case of non-compliance, sugar mills have been asked to send recommendations for issuing recovery certificates. Instructions have also been given to the departmental officers to keep a close watch on the sugar mills and ensure compliance with the tagging order. Let us tell you that through 3,201 women self-help groups formed in 37 districts of the state, till now they have made an important contribution in sugarcane seed and species transformation by distributing 29.50 crore seedlings produced of various newly developed sugarcane species.

The Chief Minister has given instructions to start the crushing season on time in all the sugar mills. Let us tell you that till now 32 sugar mills have started purchasing sugarcane by issuing indents to start the crushing season. He has also given instructions to implement the Automated Sugarcane Price Payment System under a similar system under the Smart Sugarcane Farmers Project on the lines of the slip issuance system under the Smart Sugarcane Farmers Project.

At the same time, all the sugarcane committees have been directed to ensure that the sugarcane supply problems of the sugarcane farmers are resolved on priority and to maintain the availability of fertilizers and pesticides in view of the Rabi season. It is noteworthy that in the last six years, the sugarcane area of the state has increased from 20.54 lakh hectares to 29.66 lakh hectares. Sugarcane productivity has increased from 72.38 tonnes/hectare to 83.95 tonnes/hectare. 13.57 lakh new sugarcane farmers have become members of committees in the state. Licenses have been granted to 284 new Khandsari units.
