Campaign Against Child Marriage Launched in Ranchi

BI News,Palamu: India – In a bid to raise awareness against the prevalent issue of child marriages in society, a seminar was organized at the ‘C’ block auditorium of the district under the initiative of the Department of Social Welfare.

The event, which focused on the enforcement of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006, was attended by media professionals from the district. District Social Welfare Officer Neeta Chauhan, addressing the gathering, emphasized the collective responsibility to halt child marriages, still existing in our society. She highlighted the necessity to understand the laws and provisions related to child marriages and announced the program aimed at promoting awareness on this issue.

During the seminar, the District Social Welfare Officer stressed the pivotal role of media in widespread dissemination of information about child marriages among the public. She appealed to everyone to support the district in its campaign to eradicate child marriages completely. She also mentioned that complaints related to child marriages could be reported to the Childline number 1098. Discussions were held regarding the responsibilities of the media, relevant laws related to child protection, and the precautions to be taken while reporting on child marriage-related stories. Additionally, the UNICEF project coordinator presented data related to child marriages through a presentation. The event was attended by Protection Officer K.D. Paswan, District Child Protection Officer Prakash Kumar, Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee.
