IIT BHU students end their protest after assurance

BI News, Lucknow: In Varanasi, IIT BHU campus, angry students took to the streets over the obscenity issue with a female student. Teaching and research work was halted. Meanwhile, Director Prof. PK Jain and many teachers, who had come to talk to the students, were taken hostage in the Gymkhana Club grounds. But Director Jain assured the students that the culprits would be arrested within seven days. After this, the students ended their protest. Police Commissioner Mutha Ashok Jain has sent his report to the Prime Minister’s Office. Meanwhile, SHO of Lanka outpost Ashwini Pandey has been put on the line.


It is being told that such a big demonstration had never taken place in the history of IIT BHU. This is the first time that more than a thousand students came out on the streets. Point to be noted is that Students are angry over the obscenity of a girl student near Karmanveer Baba Temple in the IIT campus at around 1.30 am on Wednesday. The IIT Student Parliament had issued a circular in the night itself calling for a protest on Thursday morning. In the morning, a large number of students gathered at the intersection near Rajputana Hostel and started raising slogans. Holding the slogan of unsafe IIT campus, the students started demanding strict action in the matter. The students condemned the incident and demanded that barricading and CC cameras be installed at all entry points into the campus. Strict action should be taken against those who carried out the incident.


Chief Proctor of IIT BHU, Prof. Sunil Mohan arrived. He assured immediate action as per rules on security related demands, but the students did not agree. ACP Bhelupur Praveen Singh was also asked to go back. The SP tried to convince him, but it did not work.
In view of the protest by the students, internet service was also stopped on the IIT campus. The aim of the IIT BHU administration was that the protest should not get much expansion.
The students themselves informed about the shutdown of internet service at the protest site. There is a ban on talking to media persons.
Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma said that the culprits will be arrested soon and strict action will be taken. He told that after talking to the Education Ministry, a survey will be conducted to build a wall between IIT and BHU. The report will be prepared in a week.
