New Delhi . Beyond India Desk:- Senior Journalist Ras Bihari (Delhi) and Prasanna Mohanty (Odisha) have been elected as the President and Secretary General of National Union of Journalists (India) unopposed.This was announced by Rajat Kumar Gupta, Returning officer of NUJ(I) on Wednesday. Both Ras Bihari and Mr Mohanty have rich organisational experiences and professional accomplishments. While Ras Bihari had previously held the post of President and Secretary General Mr Mohanty has been elected to the post of Secretary General for the second term.
Apart from the above top posts other office bearers have also been elected unopposed. Dr Arvind Singh senior journalist from Varanasi has been elected as the Treasurer. Pradip Tiwari ((Bhopal), Sayad Junaid (Jammu & Kashmir), Bhupen Goswami (Guwahati) Ramachandra Kannoujia (Haridwar) and Punnam Raju (Vijayawada) were elected Vice Presidents of the Union from different Zones. Similarly, Kamalakanta Upamanyu (Mathura), Pankaj Soni (Jaipur), K. Kandhasamy (Chennai), Prasanta Chakravarti (Tripura) are the new elected Secretaries of the Union as announced by the Returning officer.
The outgoing President Prajnananda Choudhuri, Secretary General Sheo Kumar Agarwal and Treasurer Seema Kiran have welcomed the new team and have expressed their hope that issues related to journalists can be properly handled during the new term. Similarly President of Delhi Journalist Association (DJA) Rakesh Thapliyal and General Secretary K.P. Malik and others have greeted the new team.
