BI News, Dehradun: The awaited demands of statehood agitators are still pending that caused stress for Uttarakhand Rajya Andolankari Manch. They demanded an expedite solution of waiting issues. The Rajya Andolankari Manch expressed their protest over a two month extension granted to the Select Committee to examine the  Uttarakhand Reservation In Government Services for the identified Andolankari of Uttarakhand Movement and their Dependents Bill, 2023.

On October 24, the Uttarakhand Rajya Andolankari Manch called for an immediate meeting at Saheed Smarak, Dehradun and criticised the extension. Recently they had written to the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami through an email over the matter. The government of Uttarakhand constituted a seven – member select Committee headed by Prem Chand Agrawal, Minister- in -Charge , Finance and Parliamentary Affairs for Uttarakhand, to examine the bill that proposes 10% horizontal reservation to statehood activists and their dependents in government jobs.

Addressing the media persons after the meeting, Agrawal said  ”  The work entrusted with the select committee with regard to horizontal reservation to statehood activists has been prepared. On the basis of conclusion of all meetings, the draft has been finalized for the benefit of activists. I will submit the draft report on the bill to the speaker whenever she is available.”

Reacting to the minister’s announcement the chief of agitators said ” it is positive development, but we would be happier if the tweaked bill is tabled in the vidhansabha soon after the submission of Vidhan Sabha speaker. For the same, the government should call a special session of Assembly as early as possible so that the benefits of reservation can be extended to statehood activists and their dependents.”

Statehood activists had criticized the legislation  saying it was a rushed job which did not incorporate their views, while lawmakers from the ruling party and the opposition Congress supported the intent of the legislation but pointed out that there were still some gaps. State  activists are those people who participated in the Uttarakhand Statehood  movement within the undivided state of Uttar Pradesh which ultimately resulted in the formation of Uttarakhand as a separate state on November 9, 2000.
