BI News, New Delhi: In a comprehensive performance review meeting at Baroda House, NR headquarter office, Shobhan Chaudhuri, the General Manager of Northern Railways, addressed various crucial issues concerning the railway’s operations. The primary focus of the meeting was the arrangements made to manage the extra rush of passengers during the upcoming Chhath Pooja festival.
In response to the increased demand, Chaudhuri directed officials to establish additional ticket counters, provide shelter outside temporary general ticket counters, ensure drinking water facilities, maintain sanitation, and deploy extra Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to enhance safety and security measures.
Apart from addressing the Chhath Pooja rush, the General Manager also reviewed the railway’s preparedness for the winter season. Emphasizing precautions for the colder months, Chaudhuri highlighted the importance of preventing rail and weld fractures. He stressed the need for visual examination and lubrication of rail joints and welds and called for an increase in night patrolling.
Safety remained a key theme throughout the meeting, with a strong emphasis on improving maintenance standards for tracks, level crossings, and the construction of boundary walls along high-speed sections. Chaudhuri expressed concern over trespassing on railway tracks, advising efforts to clear encroachments for enhanced safety.
Crew management was another critical aspect covered in the meeting. The General Manager addressed the detention of trains due to crew changes and instructed divisions to construct Porta Cabins at crew changing points for efficient crew changes, minimizing delays.

Electrical safety on tracks and in relay and panel rooms was highlighted to ensure error-free train movements. Chaudhuri stressed the importance of minimizing human failures in train operations, urging department heads and Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) to prioritize punctuality and safety in freight loading.
As a parting directive, the General Manager underscored the significance of monitoring the progress of construction projects, urging timely completion to facilitate the continued development and improvement of the railway infrastructure.
