“They’re both the best players,” said Baichung Bhutia of Messi and Ronaldo.

Former India captain Baichung Bhutia stated that although Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi are the “greatest players,” the former has more titles. Argentina is in the Copa America 2024 final, while Portugal is only able to get to the quarterfinals of the Euro Cup.

The former striker for India claimed that because both of the two iconic football players have accomplished a great deal in their careers, it is unfair to compare them.

Messi and Ronaldo Baichung Bhutia

“Both, in my opinion, are the best players. Saying that one individual is superior to another or the greatest is really unjust. Both, in my opinion, have accomplished a great deal. Indeed, Messi has won the World Cup. Although Cristiano did not win, he has demonstrated his abilities in a variety of teams and leagues throughout the globe. Therefore, I believe it is quite unfair to truly state one person is the best,” Bhutia stated to ANI.
“They’re both the best.” Messi has won competitions for his nation, thus I believe he can win Copa America. Because of this, I believe he may have an advantage over Cristiano in terms of the trophies’ worth.

The team lead by Cristiano Ronaldo Portugal’s dismal defeat to France sent them sailing out of the current Euro 2024. Portugal had a 0-0 lead throughout the whole game, but they lost 5-3 in penalties after failing to stop French players’ shots.
Ronaldo has had a disappointing 2024 Euro Cup as he played in all five games but was unable to score a goal during the competition.

Argentina advanced to the Copa America final for the second time in a row, and they will now play Colombia for the championship at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Argentina will be participating in their record-tying 30th major final this year.

It’s Lionel Messi’s team’s third consecutive grand final appearance. In the 2021 Copa America, the Albiceleste defeated Brazil 1-0 in the championship match. After a score of 3-3 in extra time in the final, they defeated France 4-2 on penalties to win the 2022 World Cup.

When Messi scored in the 51st minute of the semi-final, he increased his team’s advantage.
With this strike, Messi surpassed Ali Daei of Iran with his tally of international goals (109) and became the second-highest goal scorer of all time, behind Cristiano Ronaldo (130). In the history of Copa America, this was Messi’s 14th goal.
The UEFA Euro 2024 final between Spain and England will take place in the Olympiastadion Berlin Stadium in Germany. On the Sony Sports Network, spectators can watch the championship game live.

What is the potential run total of Virat Kohli in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup Final?

As the team’s captain on the field and at the bat, Rohit Sharma has guided India’s push into the ICC T20 World Cup final, while Virat Kohli, their former captain, is still in the spotlight—albeit for different reasons.

The 35-year-old, who has represented India in 529 games since making his debut in 2008 and amassed nearly 29,000 runs in all forms, has performed poorly in this competition.

With his spot on the Indian team in jeopardy, Kohli finds himself in an odd situation. Despite being 110 runs behind the tournament’s top scorer, Rohit, India’s second-highest run scorer in T20 internationals, has only scored 75 runs in his seven innings, with his best score coming against Bangladesh.

It is unclear whether the match and the final will be his final appearance in an ICC Cricket World Cup, even though his spot in India’s starting lineup will be certain.

India has had many moments of joy and agony as a result of Kohli’s genius. Now that one of the greatest batters in history is going through a slump, will his teammates be able to repay him on Saturday?

We reflect on five of his best limited-over performances on the world stage that solidified his status as a game icon:

2011: India’s Cricket World Cup victory under Kohli

Three years after making his debut for his country in an ODI against Sri Lanka, Kohli led India to victory in the 2011 domestic 50-over Cricket World Cup. Alongside Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Gautam Gambhir—who scored the most in the match against Sri Lanka with 97 runs—was the 22-year-old Kohli.

Although Kohli only made brief appearances in the competition’s knockout rounds and championship game, he scored 59 in the last group stage encounter against the West Indies thanks to a 123-run partnership with Yuvraj Singh for the third wicket. Along with opening the tournament with an unbroken hundred off 83 balls against Bangladesh, he helped India amass 370-4 and win the match by 84 runs.

2012: The emergence of a limited-overs genius

With an innings that had everyone paying attention, Kohli solidified his place as the new superstar of Indian cricket a year after the team won the World Cup. India was finding it difficult to score large totals in a tri-nation ODI series in Australia that also featured Sri Lanka. India needed to chase down their goal of 321 inside 40 overs to have a chance of making the final, as Kohli left the field with his team behind 86-2 in the tenth over with his team on the edge of elimination from the tri-series in Australia. As India pursued the mark, the right-hander destroyed the Sri Lankan attack, particularly Lasith Malinga, who he hit for 24 runs in an over. He finished undefeated at 133.

2012: Mirpur miracle against Pakistan

Not long after his incredible performance against Sri Lanka, Kohli produced another brilliant century. In the 2012 Asia Cup, the guy who was becoming known as a run-chase master scored his first century in an ODI against Pakistan, one of his fiercest opponents. A aim of 330 was established for India by Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed in the centuries that followed. India was facing a difficult goal and trailed by one wicket in the opening over when Kohli came out to bat. Distracted by the challenge, Kohli went on to smash 183 off 148 balls, taking India to victory in front of a crowded Mirpur stadium in Bangladesh. His performance featured successive century stands with Tendulkar (52) and Rohit Sharma (68).

2014: Kohli rules T20 World Cup

Once more, Kohli caused problems for Pakistan by starting India’s T20 World Cup 2022 with one of the most amazing comebacks in the history of the competition. India was looking at a dire situation at 31-4 after 6.1 overs, needing to score 160 runs to win, when Kohli decided to take matters into his own hands. He had an almost unbelievable innings, hitting an undefeated 82 off 53 balls. India needed 31 runs with two overs remaining. Kohli startled Pakistan and everyone in attendance by hitting Haris Rauf for two massive sixes off the fourth and sixth balls of the last over.

At Rajkot Airport, a canopy collapses, marking the third such event in three days.

According to the preliminary information, there were no reports of any injuries or casualties.

A day after the fatal incident at Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 1 in New Delhi, a canopy fell at the passenger pickup and drop area outside Gujarat’s Rajkot Airport amid heavy downpour on Saturday, according to news agency PTI.

In the meantime, Gujarat is receiving a lot of rain as the southwest monsoon moves deeper into the state. Seven teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the districts of Kutch, Rajkot, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar, Narmada, and Valsad due to the forecast of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in certain regions.

The event happened the day after a 45-year-old taxi driver lost his life and eight people were hurt when a section of the ceiling fell at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the early hours.

Due to the event, Terminal 1, which serves over 200 planes each day, had to permanently suspend operations. Around five in the morning on Friday, a portion of the roof at Terminal 1’s former departure forecourt collapsed, according to Delhi Airport, which is run by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). Although the exact cause of the collapse is unknown, strong winds and rain are thought to be to blame.

The family of the deceased would receive ₹20 lakh in compensation, while those who suffered minor injuries will receive ₹3 lakh each, according to civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu.

To stop these kinds of things from happening, the ministry also mandated that all airports in the nation undergo a structural preliminary inspection.

Meanwhile, the Indian Penal Code’s sections 304A (death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) have been filed by the Delhi Police as a first information report (FIR).

Similar events occurred at the Jabalpur airport in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday when a section of a fabric canopy collapsed as a result of water buildup after intense rains, crushing a car that was parked below. But the incident did not result in any injuries. March 10 saw the virtual opening of the ₹450-crore new Dumna airport terminal building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A record $5.3 billion worth of Berkshire shares are being donated to charity by Warren Buffett.

0

With his largest-ever philanthropic donation, renowned businessman and philanthropist Warren Buffett has further solidified his status as a giving titan. Buffett  $5.3 billion donation of Berkshire Hathaway stock highlights his lifetime dedication to leveraging his riches for societal benefit. Buffett targets a varied variety of causes.

Breaking Down the Beneficiaries

This unprecedented gift, which was revealed in June 2024, is equivalent to over 13 million Berkshire Hathaway Class B shares. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a longtime recipient of Buffett  kindness, and four charities run by his family are the main recipients. Remarkably, 9.93 million of these shares are assigned to the Gates Foundation, making Buffett’s total gifts to this institution an astounding $43 billion. He is also donating 993,035 shares to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, which bears the name of his deceased first wife. In addition, he has donated 695,122 shares apiece to three other charities that his children oversee:

The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, which addresses issues including poverty and peacekeeping on a global scale.
The Sherwood Foundation is committed to raising Nebraskans’ standard of living via a range of charitable endeavors.
The NoVo Foundation, which supports initiatives that give women and girls more authority.

A Legacy of Giving

Buffett began his annual giving spree in 2006, and with this most recent act of remarkable generosity, his cumulative philanthropic gifts have surpassed a stunning $57 billion. His devotion to philanthropy over the pursuit of personal wealth expansion is evident in his determination to use his fortune to alleviate societal challenges. It’s important to note that Buffett still owns a sizeable portion of Berkshire Hathaway—roughly one-seventh of the business’s outstanding shares—despite his large donations surpassing half of his ownership in the company.

Beyond the Numbers: Buffett’s Visionary Philanthropy

Buffett was the driving force behind the Giving Pledge program, together with Bill and Melinda Gates. This promise serves as a strong commitment from billionaires to give away at least half of their fortune to good causes. With 245 people contributing to the cause, Buffett is not the only one who has joined the Giving Pledge. Notable individuals who have joined this movement include Sam Altman of OpenAI, Elon Musk, Michael Bloomberg, and Mark Zuckerberg, greatly increasing the influence of global philanthropy.

Distributing Wealth for Lasting Impact

Even at ninety-three, Buffett is steadfast in his commitment to give away more than 99 percent of his enormous wealth. He has named his children executors of his will to guarantee his vision is carried out. Even though he has made a lot of contributions, his net worth is still high. With a net worth of $134.3 billion, Forbes ranked him as the tenth richest person in the world prior to this most recent donation.

The Power of Compounding Generosity

Three main elements have contributed to Buffett enormous wealth: the US economy’s tailwinds, Berkshire Hathaway’s successful investment methods, and the magic of compounding returns on investments. His estimated net worth was $44 billion when he started his charitable endeavors in 2006. His fortune has increased to extraordinary levels thanks to wise investments and the strength of the US economy. Over time, he has been able to greatly expand the scope of his charitable contributions because to this growth.

Since 1965, Berkshire Hathaway has grown into a massive multinational with a market capitalization of almost $880 billion thanks to Buffett’s wise leadership. With holdings in major corporations like as Apple, BNSF railroad, and Geico auto insurance, the company has a wide range of interests. The success of Berkshire Hathaway and Buffett’s subsequent wealth development are directly attributable to his strategic diversification and investing style, which he is currently actively redistributing for social benefit.

The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, which bears the name of Buffett’s late first wife, gives reproductive health-related projects top priority. This nonprofit is essential in promoting and defending women’s reproductive rights and access to healthcare.

The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, led by his son Howard, aims to address global issues such as public safety, conflict resolution, and food insecurity. The organization actively supports initiatives aimed at reducing hunger and enhancing public safety, including work in war-torn areas such as Ukraine.

The CEO of Unacademy, Gaurav Munjal, explains why Byju Raveendran didn’t succeed. “He paid no attention to anyone.”

On Friday, Gaurav Munjal, the CEO of Unacademy, offered his thoughts on the demise of the educational technology company Byju’s and its creator, Byju Raveendran, emphasizing the value of “blunt feedback” in managing a company. Munjal said that the founder of the struggling ed-tech business had stopped listening and didn’t have the necessary people to provide him with constructive criticism in a post on X, the old Twitter.

Munjal wrote, “He put himself on a pedestal and stopped listening.” He wrote, “Have people who can give you honest feedback; don’t listen to everyone else.”

Byju Raveendran’s leadership and his capacity to receive and act upon criticism were questioned by Munjal. In his article, Munjal added, “You might not always like the feedback, but take the feedback and act on it.”

With his fans on X, Munjal also discussed his opinions and lessons learned over the previous two years.

Five key points can be drawn from his post.
You need to have offline play if you are developing for the Indian market.
In hard times, be ten times more transparent with your investors and team members.
Don’t use sophisticated stuff like stealth layoffs as a cover when making difficult decisions. Above everything, be open and honest.
Innovation in business models is more significant than in products.
The secret to winning is to identify your leverage points and play the game accordingly. Not via heedless execution.

The case study of Byju’s as a company’s rise and fall is highlighted in Munjal’s analysis of Byju Raveendran. On June 26, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs refuted claims that it had given Bjyu the benefit of the doubt in the face of financial malfeasance. The ministry had clarified that inquiries into claims of financial impropriety involving Byju’s are still ongoing.

In an accused money laundering case, former chief minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren is granted bail and leaves jail.

0

Hemant Soren, the former chief minister of Jharkhand and leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on Friday in connection with a land scam case. He was granted regular bail by the court of Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay.

The court had deferred its decision on June 13 following the hearing of Mr. Soren’s attorney and Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S.V. Raju, who was representing the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

On January 31, 2024, the ED had Mr. Soren under arrest following a seven-plus-hour interrogation. Mr. Soren immediately went to Raj Bhavan and tendered his resignation as the Chief Minister of the State. Champai Soren was chosen to lead the JMM parliamentary party after he resigned, and on February 5, the new Champai Soren administration was confirmed by a vote of 47 MLAs in support of the motion.

The lawsuit concerns the falsification of 8.86 acres of land papers in the Ranchi neighborhood of Badgai.

Mr. Soren’s attorney finished the necessary paperwork shortly after the bail was granted, and he was released from Birsa Munda Central Jail at approximately 4 p.m. He went straight to his father Shibu Soren’s house with his wife Kalpana Murmu Soren in tow to get his blessing.

Numerous followers had arrived, brandishing his picture and yelling “Jail Ka Tala Tut Gaya, Hemant Soren Chut Gaya” among other things. (Hemant Soren is liberated after the jail lock is broken.)

“After five months, I’m out of jail. Jharkhandis and tribal people must be concerned about the next five months. The whole country is aware of the reason I was imprisoned. Ultimately, though, the court has rendered its decision. Speaking to the reporters outside his father’s Ranchi home, Mr. Soren stated, “I respect the court, but sometimes it troubles me the way the attempts are being made to suppress the voices of politicians, writers, journalists, and social workers in a systematic way.”

Mr. Soren said that fabricated tales were used to put him behind bars.

I’m not the only one who is incarcerated. It takes a long time to seek justice—even the chief minister of Delhi is incarcerated. Honest professionals in their fields are experiencing difficulties. I shall not give up on the cause of the tribal people. “My release serves as a message to the nation and the State alike that a plot was hatched against me,” Mr. Soren stated.

Earlier, in his argument, Mr. Soren’s attorney Kapil Sibal stated that the case is civil during the hearing on the bail request. There was no money laundering in this case because the land was classified as Bhuinhari, meaning it cannot be transferred and is not for sale under the Chota Nagpur Tenancy Act (CNT Act).

In its defense, the ED claimed that Mr. Soren had enlisted the assistance of the authorities to seize the land.

“The overall conspectus of the case based on the broad probabilities does not specifically or indirectly assign the petitioner to be involved in the acquisition and possession as well as concealment of 8.86 acre of land connected to the “proceeds of crime,” according to the court order, which The Hindu has obtained. The petitioner’s direct involvement in the purchase and possession of the aforementioned land is not evident in any of the register or revenue documents.

The court ruling further states that there is “reason to believe” that the petitioner is not guilty of the accused offense, as required under Section 45 PMLA, 2002, “because of the consequences of the findings recorded by this Court.”

Mr. Soren’s release must also coincide with the State’s Assembly election, which is scheduled for November of this year. Kalpana Murmu Soren, his wife, just won the Gandey Assembly seat by by-election.

As of July 15, Deputy NSA Vikram Misri will serve as the new Foreign Secretary.

The government stated on June 28 that Vikram Misri, the Deputy National Security Advisor, will assume the role of Foreign Secretary on July 15. Former Indian ambassador to China Mr. Misri will take over as Foreign Secretary from Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

The Personnel Ministry released a statement announcing the appointment of Vikram Misri, IFS (1989), Deputy National Security Advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat, to the position of Foreign Secretary effective July 15, 2024, succeeding Shri Vinay Kwatra. Given his reputation as an expert on India-China relations, Mr. Misri is anticipated to provide particular attention to the ongoing strain between Beijing and Delhi.

Among Mr. Misri’s notable overseas assignments is Myanmar, where he served as India’s ambassador from 2016 to 2018, the year that the Rohingya crisis in Rakhine state broke out. In 2019, he was then dispatched to China, where he functioned as an ambassador until 2021. It is well known that during the 2020 Galwan issue, he held secret talks with Chinese officials.

During his diplomatic career, he also served at the Indian embassies in Pakistan, the United States, Belgium, and Spain.

Sources indicate that Jawed Ashraf, India’s ambassador to France, may step in to take Misri’s place as deputy NSA in the interim.

It is also understood that the government is in the process of designating New Delhi’s permanent representative to the UN in New York and India’s envoy to the US.

Those with knowledge of the situation claimed that Kwatra is anticipated to serve as the US ambassador going forward. Ever since Taranjit Sandhu retired in January, the position has been unfilled.

After paying Rs 12 lakh to “turn into a dog,” a Japanese guy now wishes to “become a panda or a bear.”

0

A Japanese guy has said that he would like to become other four-legged creatures like a panda or a bear. In April 2022, the man paid Rs 12 lakh to get a collie dog suit and transform into the animal.

The man, who only wants to be known as Toco, talked to the Japanese news site WanQol about the difficulties he encounters when he walks around in public dressed like a dog. Toco’s YouTube channel, “I want to be an animal,” has over 65,000 subscribers who watch him talk about his life and his transformation into a dog.

“Dogs and humans have different skeletal structures, and the way we bend our legs and arms is different, so it’s very difficult to move in a way that looks like a dog’s,” Toco told the news organization. “At the moment, I’m studying motions that resemble dogs. It can be difficult to clean when it gets soiled. It takes a lot of labor to clean it every time since I get dirt on it when I walk outside and dust gets caught in my fur.”

He went on to say that he wished to “become” other creatures with four legs. Naturally, I’d also prefer to transform into a different animal. It’s possible that I’ll turn into a bear, a panda, or another dog. It would be better if a fox or cat was used, but they are too little for humans to try. Someday, I wish to fulfill my goal of becoming another animal,” he remarked.

President Muizzu’s “black magic” has suspended Maldivian Minister Fathimath Shamnaz Ali.

0

According to local media sources, Maldives Minister Fathimath Shamnaz Ali Saleem was suspended after being detained alongside her two brothers on suspicion of using “black magic” on President Mohamed Muizzu.

Saleem serves as the Maldives’ state minister for the environment, climate change, and energy. Shamnaz and two other suspects were taken into jail and placed under remand for a period of seven days on June 23.

Maldives-based Sun claims that Shamnaz has been added to the list of former political appointees after previously being featured on the Environment Ministry’s website as a political appointee.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan, who serves as the chief police spokesperson, told Sun that “police were investigating a case involving Shamnaz and two other individuals.”

resident Muizzu

Interestingly, the Maldivian government has not yet released an official remark regarding this circumstance. When President Muizzu was the mayor of the city, Shamnaz was a member of the Male City Council.

Shamnaz left the council following Muizzu’s election to the presidency of the country last year. He was then named a state minister at Muliaage and subsequently moved to the Ministry of the Environment.

She plays a crucial role in a country that is most affected by the climate issue. By the end of the century, increasing sea levels might render it all but uninhabitable, according to UN environmental experts.

Maldives’ black magic history

According to the Mihaaru news website, a 62-year-old woman on Manadhoo was fatally stabbed in April 2023 by three neighbors who suspected her of practicing black magic. Police said they had conducted a thorough investigation and had discovered no evidence to back up the victim’s alleged involvement in magic.

In a different instance in 2012, police said the organizers of an opposition political gathering tossed a “cursed rooster” at officers who were raiding their offices during a crackdown.
